The Berkeley Arts Council and the Hampshire County Arts Council in Romney have arranged an exchange of art exhibits for both communities that will be held in the summer of 2010.
Artists who are residents of Berkeley County or who are members of the Berkeley Arts Council or ArtBerkeley are invited to submit works for exhibit in the Hampshire County “Bottling Works” in Romney, July 1 – August 14, 2010. (The exchange show will feature Hampshire County’s art at the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Library during this same period.)
The center has red brick and white walls along with a glass wall, and pedestals for 3-D work. Some work such as stained glass or pieces not sensitive to sunlight can be displayed in the window drawing the public’s eye at all times. The hanging system requires wired artwork for hanging, not clips or single hooks. It is the Walker Display System. NOTE: This is a public place, so nudes and art that is not family-friendly will not be shown.
ENTRIES: It is anticipated that each artist will be able to display 2 or 3 pieces, depending on the number of artists participating and the type/size of the art.
Submissions should be made via email to hcexhibit@berkeleyartswv.org. Required information appears in the form on Page Two. Indicate your Berkeley County affiliation. Give an order of preference if all three cannot be exhibited. If you are unable to submit via email, you can use the form downloadable with the link at the bottom of this post and mail it to the address shown.
DEADLINES:
March 12 – Digital Images to be considered for publicity purposes must be emailed to hcexhibit@berkeleyartswv.org. The Hampshire Arts Council will select from these for initial publicity. (JPEG Images should be at least 1,200 pixels on the long dimension at 150 dpi and saved at quality setting 8.)
June 11 – Final Deadline for submitting entries
You will be notified by June 15 which pieces have been accepted for the exhibit. Arrangements for delivery of artwork will be set up at that time.
All eligible artists that submit work will be represented in the exhibit. However, the final selection of artwork by the Exhibit Committee will depend on space considerations, range of media and subject matter. The goal is to put together a representative selection.
For questions email hcexhibit@berkeleyartswv.org or call Anna Hogbin at 304.263.1094.
Artist Reception will be scheduled following the opening.
SALES: Artwork may be for sale or marked NFS. (All work must have a value assigned, even if it is NFS). The Visitors Center at the Bottling Works will probably handle most of the sales. Their commission is 25% and an additional 6% tax will be deducted from the sale price and paid to the state by them. If a piece is sold directly through HCAC, the commission will be 20%.
Participants will be required to sign an agreement that BAC and the HCAC are not responsible for damage to the work. However, all work will be treated with the highest level of care in transportation and hanging. Artists are encouraged to insure their own work.
PUBLICITY: Both arts councils will provide publicity in both communities and the surrounding areas for the shows. Artists will receive materials that they can print or email to help.
