The Berkeley Arts Council is kicking off its third year of activities with workshops for artists who want to promote their work and submit their work to juried exhibits and competitions. Two sessions on Saturday, September 10 will provide tools and techniques for greater success with exhibit entries.
The morning session on “Photographing Your Artwork” covers the basics of lighting, staging, and digital post-processing to prepare photos for web, email and submissions to juried exhibitions. Digital submissions are required more and more, and presenting your artwork clearly will assure that the juror can evaluate it accurately alongside other entries. Each participant will be asked to bring one or two examples of their work, which will be used for demonstrations. Rip Smith will be the instructor.
“Improve Your Success in Juried Exhibits” is the topic for the afternoon presentation by Dave Stovall of Rockville, Maryland. Dave is a fine art photographer and a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology. With over 70 successful submissions in the past few years, Dave will share how an organized and knowledgeable approach to each exhibit’s requirements and a careful digital presentation can improve the acceptance rate for an artist working in any medium.
Registration for the full day is $75, or $60 for Berkeley Arts Council members. For one session (morning or afternoon) the fee is $50 ($40 for members) More detail and online registration is on the web at http://www.berkeleyartswv.org/workshops/. For questions, email berkeleyartswv@gmail.com.
