The Berkeley Arts Council has announced that the Fourth Annual Art and Earth Juried Art Exhibit will open April 10, 2014 in the special exhibit gallery space at the Berkeley Art Works, 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg. The exhibit will be on display through May 4, 2014.

The juror for the 2014 exhibit will be Lauren Schell Dickens, the Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

The exhibit, which is produced by the Berkeley Arts Council, has the theme “Art and Earth: My Art – My World” and entries should reflect the artist’s view of nature, the environment, or reflect an Earth Day related theme.

The Call for Artists and the prospectus will be posted on the Berkeley Arts Council web site during the first week of January. Entries will be accepted through February 18, 2014.

Call for Artists: Berkeley Arts Council Members’ Exhibit

BAC-For-Blog-FB-500pxAll artists who are members of – or who join – the Berkeley Arts Council are invited to exhibit one or two art works in the Berkeley Art Works gallery, January 23 through February 9, 2014. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, January 25 from 5-7pm.

The exhibit is not juried. Any current member of the Berkeley Arts Council may participate in the exhibit. Artists who are not current members may join or renew online or at the time work is delivered for the exhibit. There is no entry fee other than membership dues. Participation in the exhibit is a benefit of membership.

To participate, deliver one or two art works to the gallery during regular hours on Thursday, January 16 (12-5pm), Friday, January 17 (12-8pm), Saturday, January 18 (12-5pm), and Sunday January 19 (12-3pm).

Although the exhibit is not juried, work must be properly framed or otherwise well presented for display. Framed work must be wired for hanging. Three-dimensional fine art and fine crafts are welcome. An identification card or tag must be attached to each piece.

If for sale, the tag must indicate the price of the work. The Berkeley Art Works will retain a 30% commission on sales of work in the exhibit. Please direct questions via email to berkeleyartswv@gmail.com or 304-620-7277.

Berkeley Arts Council January Classes Announcement

The Berkeley Arts Council has announced a new series of art classes starting January 13, 2014. The classes are held at the Berkeley Art Works, 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg.

The announced classes for adults include beginning and intermediate acrylic painting, pastel painting, watercolor painting, beginning and intermediate drawing and sketching, pottery, and a classes on writing a a mystery novel.

Classes for young people include Art and Art History for home school middle and high school students, tempera painting for middle school students, and Junior Art Academy for age 7-10 years.

Watercolor “Coaching” Session This Saturday

The Berkeley Art Works at 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg will offer a Watercolor “Coaching” workshop on Saturday, December 7 from 1-4pm.

The workshop is for any artist who would like feedback from an experienced teacher. Teaching Artist Judith Becker will conduct a three hour workshop to assist watercolor painters who may be struggling with a certain technique, a specific painting, or who are just looking for advice and coaching assistance.

The workshop includes discussion of elements of composition, value and color selection to develop stronger overall composition and to move beyond the fear that watercolors are “unfixable”.

Bring paintings for discussion, notepaper, pencils.  More discussion based with encouragement for newer painters.
