Colored Pencil Painting
Wednesdays, January 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12, 19; 1-3pm
Instructor: Judith Becker
Class introduces beginners and those with some experience to the process of creating a painting with colored pencils. It explores the many effects possible with the pencils including mixing colors, blending for smoothness, making various textures plus much more. A variety of painting surfaces are explored and participants create several small painting using the techniques learned.
Supplies: Box of no less than 24 colored pencils, preferably by Prismacolor, Derwent or Faber Castel (do not buy hard colored pencils). Pad of Strathmore Vellum Bristol Board paper, 9”X12”. Lead pencil, ruler, eraser. All other materials will be provided by instructor.
Judith Becker is an experienced artist with dual degrees in design and education. She has recently moved to the Eastern Panhandle, but previously taught a variety of classes in Garrett County, Maryland. Judith specializes in painting with colored pencils, pastels and watercolors and often mixes her media for unusual effects. Her subjects mostly are botanical s and scenes from her travels. Her popular classes cover many art techniques targeted for both the beginner and the more experienced painter.
Tuition $80 for six weeks.

The Berkeley Arts Council offers a wide range of art classes and workshops at the Berkeley Art Works, 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg.
The announced classes for adults include beginning and intermediate acrylic painting, pastel painting, watercolor painting, beginning and intermediate drawing and sketching, pottery, and a classes on writing a a mystery novel.
Classes for young people include Art and Art History for home school middle and high school students, tempera painting for middle school students, and Junior Art Academy for age 7-10 years.
