To clarify — on Friday, registration begins as 3:45. Studio directors pick up packets with wristbands for their dancers and hand them out. At 4:30, the intermediate and advanced master classes begin. To allow for later school dismissal times, the beginning class is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 pm. A panel discussion for high school students and parents begins at 6:15, followed by technical rehearsals for the performances from 7:00 on. Performers should have received their tech schedules this week.

Dance Works Gala Performance March 22!
Lovers of dance will enjoy the opportunity to see performances by a dozen local companies appearing as part of the Dance Works 2014 Festival being held at Musselman High School. Three invited guest artists will also be appearing in the show, which begins at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, March 22.
Performers include dancers from Dance Dimensions of Hedgesville, Fragrant Offering Dance Co., Inwood Dance Co. and Inwood Performing Arts, Jefferson High’s Charisma Dance Ensemble, Neshema Dance of Hagerstown, New Hopewell Center for the Performing Arts, Rhythm N Motion and their Turning Pointe Dance Co., the Parks Dept. Turning Pointe Centre for Dance, and Washington High’s Synergy Dance Ensemble.
Enriching the dance experience will be performances by guest artists JoshuaLegg/DanceProjects, KittyClarkMoves, and Tiffanie Carson of Christopher K. Morgan and Artists. A piece by rising Chicago choreographer Eddy Ocampo brings a unique contemporary style to round out the program.
The gala performance is part of a two-day celebration of dance that begins Friday with the first of a series of master classes. The Dance Works planning team is bringing instructors from regional professional companies to give young dancers ages 10 – 18 years the chance to experience varied styles and techniques. Thirteen sessions range from classical and pointe through contemporary, modern and jazz to techniques in partnering. A panel discussion will help young students who plan to continue to pursue a life in dance beyond high school.

Intro to Acrylics Workshop at Berkeley Art Works
The next workshop at the Berkeley Art works will be Introduction to Acrylic Painting on Saturday, March 15 from 1-4 pm. The workshop taught by Teaching Artist Jean Kellogg and will be held at the Berkeley Art Works, 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg.
This class will be an introduction to some of the basic acrylic painting techniques. Information provided will include brush selection, prep work, paint application methods, use of paper and canvas boards, and will also allow the student to sample a variety of materials, brush techniques, and paints, If you have been thinking about starting to paint with acrylics, this is a great class to begin to learn and have fun!

Berkeley Art Works to Display Middle School Artwork
The Berkeley Arts Council celebrates Youth Art Month with an exhibit of artwork by students from all five of the Berkeley County middle schools plus a selection of artwork from middle school level home school students.
The student artwork will be displayed in the Berkeley Art Works special exhibit gallery at 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg from March 13 through March 30. There will be a reception for the students and their families on Saturday, March 15 from 4-6pm at the gallery. Come and congratulate the young artists and see the creativity from the up and coming generation.
