Call for Artists: Berkeley Arts Council Members’ Exhibit

Berkeley Art Works

All artists who are members of – or who join – the Berkeley Arts Council are invited to exhibit one or two art works in the Berkeley Art Works gallery, January 8 through February 1, 2015. There will be a reception on Friday, January 16 from 5-7pm.

The exhibit is not juried. Any current member (for 2015) of the Berkeley Arts Council may participate in the exhibit. Artists who are not current members may join or renew online or at the gallery when the artwork is delivered for the exhibit. There is no entry fee other than membership dues. Participation in the exhibit is a benefit of membership.

To participate, deliver one or two art works to the gallery during regular hours on Friday, January 2 (12-8pm), Saturday, January 3 (12-5pm), and Sunday January 4 (12-3pm).

Although the exhibit is not juried, work must be properly framed or otherwise well presented for display. Framed work must be wired for hanging. Three-dimensional fine art and fine crafts are welcome. An identification card or tag must be attached to each piece.

If for sale, the tag must indicate the price of the work. The Berkeley Art Works will retain a 30% commission on sales of work in the exhibit. Please direct questions via email to berkeleyartswv@gmail.com or 304-620-7277.

As we approach the end of 2014, we are able to report that the arts are alive and well in Berkeley County. If you are a current (2014) member you should be on the lookout for your renewal information that be sent by (snail) mail. But you can save us the cost of mailing if you go right now to www.berkeleyartswv.org/join.php and renew for 2015 online. and your early renewal will give us confidence that we will go into 2015 with strong support from the community.

If you are not a current member, please consider joining and supporting our efforts. You can join through the web site or come in to the Berkeley Art Works and pick up the forms.

Berkeley Art Works Offering Selected Art at 50% on Small Business Saturday

Holiday-market-bulb-50%off-288Berkeley Art Works is offering selected works of art at 50% off on November 29, Small Business Saturday (the Saturday after Thanksgiving). Hundreds of dollars of artwork and unique gifts will be included in this half-price sale. The unprecedented sale is part of the Small Business Saturday Shop Local. Shop Small. citywide celebration of local small business sponsored by Main Street Martinsburg.

“We’re proud to offer the work of local artists and artisans for the fifth year,” said the nonprofit’s president, Malinda Shaver. “There are useful, beautiful and clever gifts in this year’s collection.”

The special one day offering will include pottery, glass, ornaments, jewelry, knits, wonderful wooden treasures, baskets, greeting cards, clocks, vases, framed or matted paintings and photos, and more. Save a bundle on a unique gift for those hard-to-buy-for friends and family, while supporting one of your community’s small businesses and the local artists who sell their wares at Berkeley Art Works.

Berkeley Art Works is located in downtown Martinsburg at 116 North Queen Street. The special art offering will run from 10:00 a.m. until the Christmas parade begins at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29.

Berkeley Art Works Holiday Open House

Holiday Art and Craft Market

Berkeley Art Works will roll out its fifth annual Holiday Art and Craft Show with an Open House from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 15. The show offers hundreds of one-of-a-kind items for every taste, every interest and every budget.

“Catch the holiday spirit at Berkeley Art Works,” said Malinda Shaver, the non-profit’s president. “Join us for shopping, singing and snacks.”

The day will be jam-packed with activities for the whole family. The Open House includes:

A reception, with seasonal refreshments, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A pottery demonstration by Martinsburg ceramicist Hilda Eiber, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Caroling with members of the Berkeley Community Chorus, from 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m.
– Exhibiting artists will be at the Holiday Art and Craft Show throughout the day, ready to help you find just the right gift for a loved one or answer questions about an item.
