Berkeley Arts Council Partners to Enrich Arts in the Community

Building partnerships in the community was a founding principle behind the formation of the Berkeley Arts Council (or BAC) back in 2009. Over the eight-plus years, the group has interacted with many organizations to encourage existing programs and launch new ones. “Amplify the Arts” is a theme for the group, as evidenced by the associations that have developed through the years.

The month of January adds a new partner to the list as Joe Santoro of Wonderment Puppet Theater brings his art instructor portfolio to the Berkeley Art Works classroom, offering Paperfolding and Storytelling, featuring creativity as well as art techniques. “We’re delighted to have this opportunity to add a kids’ class, something people have often asked for,” reports Malinda Shaver, president of the group’s board of directors.

New to the Art Works will be this spring’s Youth Art Month presentation, a collaboration with the Berkeley County high school art departments. With the gallery’s regular and standard opening hours (Wednesday through Saturday), the students’ work will receive more well-deserved exposure. Continue reading
