Instructor: Robert Howard

This is a course in learning to paint with acrylics. Although it is very much like working with oils, painting in acrylics can extend your versatility. The binder is a latex variant, so you’re actually using a paint similar to what you paint your cabinets at home with – or even your walls. The medium lends itself to experimentation and can simulate the look of traditional oils or watercolor – it can even look like gouache. We’ll cover all the basics – dry brush, washes, stippling, splattering, dabbing, using a palette knife, detailing. You’ll also be shown how to build an underpainting, glaze, layer, and paint in blocks. There will a short session on color mixing with acrylics as well. There’s also a way to store your paints without having them dry out on you.

So come with your idea of what you want to paint – and we’ll help you discover the magic of acrylics.
