Description: Participants will paint four different beautiful scenes at Alpine Lake Resort, in the mountains of West Virginia while improving their art skills under the direction of instructor. Processes such as choosing the best view for the best layout, redesigning the view, capturing the light, painting efficiently, utilizing limited colors, capturing a mood and expressing oneself will all be objectives. In most cases, the location of each site will have facilities in case of inclement weather.

Supplies: Any medium can be used. Student will need to carry equipment and materials only a short distance in most cases. An easel or portable table, chair, comfortable clothing (the weather can be cool in mornings and at night, but also can get pleasant in midday). A light weight carry-all which can hold all the materials you will need would be useful. Medium to small sized canvases or mounted papers are recommended as there will be a limited time to accomplish a each work. A camera can also be a helpful reference in case a painting needs to be finished at a later date.

NOTE: All registered participants are encouraged to bring guests as there are many exciting activities available at Alpine Lake as well as the nearby areas. Participants will receive more detailed information prior to the event. However, it is recommended to go to the resort’s website to get a nice preview of what to expect at the location.

Lodging and meals: Ask for the Becker Art Group special group room rate of $89.10 for the workshop. (Best Reserved by September 14 to ensure room availability at that rate.) Continental breakfasts and box lunches are available. (Two breakfasts and two lunches per person is $45.11 incl tax and gratuities paid directly to Alpine Lake Resort upon registration.)

From the Eastern Panhandle: North I81 to West I70 to West I68 to exit 14 MD Rt 219 to Deep Creek & Oakland MD. Through town of Oakland at T intersection, take right turn on RT 39 West which becomes WV RT 7. At road sign for Alpine Lake Resort (on the left), turn right and follow for about 2.5 miles to the entrance to the resort. Stop at guard shack to receive visitor pass and packet of informational materials. Guard will direct to Lodge where one registers for motel.
