St. Nick’s Picks is Here!

Don’t Have to Shout, Don’t Have to Cry!  St. Nick’s Picks is Here!

St. Nick’s Picks holiday market returns to the Berkeley Art Works and is open for business Thursday, November 19 through Thursday, December 24!  The exhibit space at the Berkeley Art Works is transformed into a holiday shop, displaying various artists’ works for great selection and more shopping fun!

This year, in addition to the Artists at the Works Co-op members and your favorite visiting holiday market artisans, St. Nick’s Picks has brought in some new artists, too.  There is a mix of fine art and craft items for the home, including basketry, ceramics, glass, wood, photography, painting and mixed media; cards, calendars and clocks; even honey and handmade soap!  There’s art to wear, including woven fibers, knitwear, beautiful jewelry and more!  Not sure what to buy,?  The Berkeley Arts Council offers gift cards, which can be used to purchase work in the gallery, or any of our classes being offered via Zoom.

Now in its 11th year, the community has been looking forward to the Berkeley Arts Council’s annual holiday market since 2010.  Originally called the “Holiday Art & Craft Market”, it all started at 116 N. Queen Street, before the space became the official location of Berkeley Arts Council.  In 2011 and 2012, the market was held at 115 S. Queen Street.  When the Arts Council opened the Berkeley Art Works in 2013, the market returned to its current location.

Beginning in 2018, the holiday planning committee decided to give the market a new brand and a new look.  The market’s name was changed to “St. Nick’s Picks” to distinguish it from other area holiday markets.  The goal was to acquaint the community with artists beyond the Co-op membership and increase the variety of work being offered during gift-giving season.

By creating an environment with more artists’ work, shoppers get to experience the wide range of creativity and talent that resides in the Eastern Panhandle.  Throughout the year, the St. Nick’s planning committee keeps their eye out for potential artists and artisans to participate.  Selection criteria includes, skill in the artist’s medium, uniqueness of the work, and appeal to area gift givers.  There are always lots of great items to fit every budget.

So Don’t Pout!  Stop by the Berkeley Art Works, 116 N. Queen Street, Martinsburg and let St. Nick’s Picks be the solution to your gift-giving list!  Holiday hours are Thursdays 11:00am to 5:00pm; extended Fridays 11:00am to 8:00pm; and Saturdays 11:00am to 4:00pm.
