Oil, Cold Wax, and Palette Knife Painting Workshop

Saturday, January  28, 2023; 10:30-12:30, (Lunch Break 12:30-1), 1-3pm (Four hours)
Instructor: Yoyi Fogarty Bennett (Info)

Cold Wax is a medium (paint additive) used in conjunction with many materials. It allows for greater creativity, layering and texture effects.  It feels like painting with cake frosting! In this workshop, the student will explore mixing cold wax with oils on canvas paper and applying it with assorted sizes of palette knife. This technique brings a new dimension to all forms of art, including landscape, abstract, still life and many more.

Creating Collage

Wednesdays February 1,8,15,22, 2023; 1-4pm (Four weeks)
Instructor: Jeanne Marie McClure (Info)

Create colorful art pieces by cutting and gluing a variety of paper and ephemera. Students will explore types of material that can be used, making their own color sheets, planning the layout, and choosing a theme for their collage work.

Supplies: Watercolor paper (12 x 18 is a good size), art journal -if you have one, glue stick (not washable) white glue or matte medium, brush to apply glue, variety of paper with colors, graphics and pictures, box to organize your paper collection (12 x 12 plastic boxes are good) scissors, paint including acrylic or gouache, brushes, colored pencils, sharpener, and foam board to secure your page. Additional supplies provided by instructor.

Palette Knife and Acrylic

Fridays, February 3,10,17,24, 2023; 9:30am-12:30pm (Four weeks)

Express emotions boldly and fearlessly!  The palette knife opens the doors to mixing colors with great texture and making a personal statement with your art. The palette knife translates movement of the wrist to a dance on canvas!

Parchment Craft Workshop

Sunday, February 5, 2023; 10:00 – 4:00pm (Six hours)
Instructor: Cynthia Huesman (Info)

Parchment Craft is a craft from antiquity dating back to the 15th century.  It is the craft of decorating parchment or vellum paper using various techniques that include the drawing or tracing of images, the painting and/or coloring of those drawn or traced images, embossing, perforating, or stippling or cutting decorative borders and internal embellishments.  The creative possibilities are many, including three-dimensional art.

In this class, we will use modern materials to create a nostalgic, beautiful Valentine’s Day card suitable for someone you care for.  This is a beginner’s workshop.  You will be happy to know that your card will look wonderful and will be something that you will enjoy giving to your special someone.

Supply List for Students:   

I will supply the materials, handouts and project for this class.  Materials and Supplies Cost per participant:  $10.00 paid directly to the instructor.

Introduction to Color Theory Workshop

Saturday, February 11, 2023; 10:30am – 12:30 pm (lunch 12:30 – 1:00), 1:00 – 3:30pm (Four hours)

Knowing the basics in color theory gives the artist tools to mix colors and express feelings in a harmonious way, providing ambiance to convey the mood of a painting. It is a powerful part of the artist’s language.

Intro to Needle Felting:
Bird’s Nest & Eggs OR Cat Toys

Saturday, February 18, 2023; 1:00-4:00pm (Three Hours),(Sold out!)

Learn the basics of working with several types of sheep’s wool to create your choice of project: your own unique bird’s nest and eggs – a fun easy project for needle felt beginners and anyone who is looking forward to springtime! OR several one of a kind toys that your favorite kitties are sure to love. Catnip fill optional but will be provided 🙂

Age range of students: 10 years and up

Materials needed:

$25 supply fee to be paid directly to instructor includes basic needle felting tools and will be yours to keep: small mat, two needles, materials needed for this project. Locally sourced wool provided whenever possible.

Basic supplies are included in the supplies package, but feel free to bring along any special little bits that you might like to see in your nest – interesting little twigs, feathers, ribbon, lichen, moss etc.

Needle Felting with Armatures:
Poseable Sheep

Advance your needle felting skills by making a cute woolly sheep with an  armature (wire skeleton) that can be shaped into different poses. Once you  understand the basics of creating an armature, you will be able to create any poseable creature you desire!

Introduction to Negative Painting in Watercolor

Saturday, March 11, 2023; 9:00am-4:00pm (Seven Hours),
Instructor: Monica Wilkins

Learn to paint around the subject rather than painting the subject/object. Learn to create and interweave layers using negative shapes and glazes. Students should have knowledge of watercolor pigments and be able to draw simple shapes.

Introduction to Soft Pastels

Saturday, March 25, 2023; 9:00am-4:00pm (Seven Hours),
Instructor: Hilary White MAT, CDA

We will discuss and use various soft pastel supplies and make surfaces in our class. Hard/medium pastels and various papers will be provided for use in class. We will practice techniques with a still life or landscape.

Ages: Teen through adult.

Are you new to pastels? Necessary supplies, surfaces, and use of pastels in class only are available for $15, payable to the Instructor.

Policy:

Registration

Class information and fees are provided on the BAC website. An online registration form must be completed either by the student or a BAC representative. Tuition may be paid online using a credit card that is processed through our secure payment system.

Registration may also be paid by cash or check but payment must be received within four days of the start of the class to assure the student a space. BAC reserves the right to take a student off the roster if not paid in advance. Follow this link for a printable registration form.

Holiday schedule: Classes will be held on federal or state holidays (President’s Day, election day, etc.) if that is a normally scheduled day. Class will not be held on Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or during the last 2 weeks of December.

Refunds

Coordinator must authorize payment of a refund. PayPal refunds are available within a limited time. Payment by cash or check will be refunded by check mailed to the student or to the person who made the payment (a parent, etc.)

REFUND POLICY:

If a class is cancelled by BAC due to insufficient enrollment or another reason, the instructor or  Coordinator shall notify the students and arrange for a refund of fees paid.

Withdrawal from class

If a student pays for a class and then withdraws, refunds will be made as follows:

· Withdrawal after first class session: no refund unless there are special circumstances, i.e. a medical or family emergency. A fee of 20% of the original amount will be deducted and the remaining amount is pro-rated by number of classes already held.

· Withdrawal less than four days prior to first session: refund of fee paid less 20% service charge.
