Entry Instructions: ‘Berkeley County, WV: Future, Present, Past’ Exhibit

The exhibit is open to all artists throughout the continental United States, over the age of 18, working in any fine art or fine craft medium or technique, in 2- or 3-dimensions. Representational, abstract, or non-representational work in all media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, mixed media, assemblage, sculpture and graphic arts; fine craft media, such as clay, glass, metal, wood, fibers, etc., are welcome. Entries must be the original work of the artist. Artists do not have to be current residents of Berkeley County; however, they must reflect a future vision, or a present or past adventure, event, memory, experience, etc., in Berkeley County, WV.

Size of Work: Two-dimensional artwork up to 48 inches in width including frame, and three-dimensional artwork up to 72 inches in height and 36 inches in width or depth is acceptable. Larger visual works or works in a series are welcome, but will require prior arrangements to ensure sufficient space in the gallery.

This is not a juried exhibit; however, work must arrive ready for display. Artwork must be properly framed or otherwise professionally presented. Work to be hung on a wall must be equipped with wire for hanging (no sawtooth or single loop hangers). Three-dimensional work must be free-standing.

Entry Fee: $10.00 per piece to a maximum of 3 pieces may be submitted per artist.

Awards: Awards for Best in Show, Merit Award and Honorable Mention will be given. The total prize fund is $500.

Entries:

Entries for the exhibit must be submitted as digital images. You may submit up to 3 works for this exhibit; one image per work. One additional image to show detail for 3-dimensional work is allowed.

The image file format should be normal (baseline) JPEG. Do not save as ‘progressive’ JPEG. Images should be 1200 pixels on the long dimension with the other dimension proportional. Save at 72 PPI/DPI at high quality setting (8 out of 10 or 80% is good). Set the filename to lastname_title_WxHxD_entrynumber.jpg (example: jones_pretty flower_11x14x1_no1.jpg).

General Guidelines and Terms for Accepted Work:

Entries must be original works of art.

The Berkeley Arts Council reserves the right to reject any work that is not consistent with the work presented in the digital entry image, or if the framing or presentation is not adequate.

No substitution, exchange, modification, or withdrawal of works is permitted after they are submitted for the exhibition.

Commission – The BAC will retain a 30% commission on all sales. Works may not be removed during the exhibition.

Insurance/Liability – By delivering or shipping your work, you agree that, although the BAC will take reasonable measures to ensure the safety of the entries in the gallery, the BAC is not responsible for loss of or damage to the artwork, and the artist is responsible for his/her own insurance if desired.

Publicity – The artist grants permission for the BAC to use submitted images of artwork for promotion and publicity. The BAC will promote the exhibit through its Web site, e-mail list, press releases and social media.

Delivery and Shipping of Artwork:

All work must arrive between Monday May 9 and Saturday May 14, 2022. Works are to be hand-delivered or shipped to:

Hand-Delivered Work – Artwork to be hand-delivered must arrive at the Berkeley Art Works on Wednesday 5/11, Thursday 5/12, or Friday 5/13 from 11am to 5pm, or Saturday 5/14 from 11am to 4pm. All artwork must have identifying information attached: Title, name of artist, medium, price.

Shipped Work – Artwork to be shipped must arrive during the week of Monday May 11 through Friday May 13, 2022. Staff will be at the gallery to receive shipments between 11am and 5pm. Work must be shipped prepaid to the Berkeley Art Works in sturdy, reusable packing. (Please no styrofoam packing peanuts!) Plexiglass must be used on all shipped works, no glass. All artwork must have identifying information attached: Title, name of artist, medium, price.

For return shipping, a pre-paid, printed shipping label must be included with your work – no exceptions! Hand-written labels are not acceptable. The Berkeley Arts Council will not pay for return shipping. Failure to provide a proper pre-paid shipping label could result in delays and increased costs, and could result in damage to your work due to limited storage available at the gallery.

IMPORTANT: The Berkeley Art Works does not receive U.S. Mail at the gallery address. Do not use the U.S. Postal Service to ship your work. Please use Federal Express (FedEx) or United Parcel Service (UPS). Artists are responsible for tracking and verification of when their package is delivered. Please make UPS/FedEx aware that our hours for accepting deliveries are Monday – Friday, 11am to 5pm. If you are unable to use FedEx or UPS to ship your work, please e-mail us at bacexhibits@gmail.com for instructions.

Important Dates:

Deadline for entries: Friday May 6, 2022 (Midnight).
Shipment of work to the Berkeley Art Works: Monday May 9 – Friday May 13.
Hand delivery of work: Wednesday May 11 – Friday May 13 (11am – 5pm) and Saturday May 14 (11am – 4pm)
Exhibit Dates: Wednesday May 18 – Saturday June 25, 2022.
Pick Up Work at End of Exhibit: Saturday June 25 between 11:00am and 4:00pm.
Return of Shipped Work – On or about Monday/Tuesday June 27/28, 2022.
