We are pleased to announce the artists and artwork selected for the Art & Earth Juried Exhibit!
This year, we received 83 entries from 36 artists representing 13 states. Our juror carefully considered each submission and selected 38 pieces by 33 artists to be featured in this year’s show.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all who submitted work, and we congratulate those whose pieces were chosen.
✨ Reception Details
Please join us for the opening reception on Sunday, May 11th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 116 N Queen (Berkeley Artworks). We look forward to celebrating these talented artists and their creative expressions.
Juror’s Statement
I was honored to be asked to select the works for the 15 th Annual Art and Earth Juried Exhibit for the Berkeley Arts Council. The submitted works were engaging, striking and informative, as well as beautiful, and it was difficult to whittle the number down to what would fit in the gallery. A juried exhibition is always a very subjective undertaking, and jurors often just “go with their gut feeling” about a work. Entrants should not be discouraged if their favorite work wasn’t included. That said, I and most jurors have years of experience—sometimes decades—looking at art. We know how art is supposed to work. For this exhibition, in addition to a successful work of art, I was looking for how the artist related to or informed the viewer about the natural world. This was especially true with the works I chose as prizewinners. These artists told me something about our natural environment. Most importantly, they made an emotional connection with me, the viewer, successfully conveying their deepest feelings about the natural world to which we all belong.
