Call for Artists: 13th Annual Eastern West Virginia Juried Exhibit

EXTENDED ENTRY DEADLINE MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2025, at midnight.  

The Berkeley Arts Council’s 13th Annual Eastern West Virginia Juried Exhibit will be displayed in the Berkeley Art Works gallery, 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg, WV, from September 4 – November 2, 2025.

Eligibility:
The exhibit is open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in any of the eight counties of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia: Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, Morgan, and Pendleton.

Description:
The theme for the exhibit is open. Works in any medium or technique, in 2- or 3-dimensions, abstract, representational, or non-representational subject matter are welcome.

Entries:
Entries must be original works of art that have been completed within the last three years and have not been exhibited previously at the Berkeley Art Works.

Juror:
Evan Boggess received his MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2011. His paintings are conflations of personal experiences, cultural allegories, references to natural resources, paradoxical circumstances, and geographical features of his home state of West Virginia. He has won many awards and recognition for his work, which he exhibits nationally. In addition to his painting practice, he is a full-time faculty member of the Department of Contemporary Art and Theater at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. He was the director of the Phaze 2 Gallery at Shepherd University until 2023.

Entry Fee:
$40 for the first two works. Artists may submit one or two additional works for $10 each, for a maximum of four works. 

Awards:
Best in Show, Merit Award, and Honorable Mention.

Reception:

We will be holding a reception at the Berkeley Art Works on September 14th from 3-5 PM.

Notification of Accepted Work:
The juror’s selections will be announced by email and posted on the Berkeley Arts Council website on or about Saturday, August 9, 2025. Detailed delivery instructions will be provided when accepted artists are announced.

Deadline for Entries:
Thursday, July 31, 2025, at midnight. EXTENDED DEADLINE MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2025, at midnight.

Terms of Entry for Entrants:
Entries must be original works of art that have been completed within the last three years and have not been exhibited previously at the Berkeley Art Works.

The Berkeley Arts Council reserves the right to reject any work that is not consistent with the work presented in the digital entry image or if the framing or presentation is not adequate.

No substitution, exchange, modification, or withdrawal of works is permitted after they are accepted for the exhibition.

Commission:
The Berkeley Arts Council retains a 30% commission on all sales. Work may not be removed during the exhibit.

Insurance/Liability:
By delivering or shipping your work, you agree that, although the Berkeley Arts Council will take reasonable measures to ensure the safety of the work in the gallery, the Berkeley Arts Council is not responsible for loss of or damage to the artwork. The artist is responsible for their own insurance, if desired.

Publicity:
Artists grant permission for the Berkeley Arts Council to use submitted images of artwork for promotion and publicity. The Berkeley Arts Council will promote the exhibit through its website, email list, press releases, and social media.

Work Left More Than 30 Days:
Artwork left more than 30 days after the exhibition closes becomes the property of the Berkeley Arts Council.
