Seventh Annual Art and Earth Exhibit
April 5 -May 20, 2017
The Berkeley Arts Council announces the Seventh Annual Art and Earth Juried Art Exhibit. The exhibit, which is produced by the Berkeley Arts Council, has the theme “Art and Earth: My Art – My World”. Entries should reflect the artist’s view of nature, the environment, or reflect an Earth Day related theme. Any medium or technique is acceptable.
The exhibit will open April 5, 2017 in the Berkeley Art Works, 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg. The exhibit will be on display through May 20, 2017. There will be reception at the gallery on Friday, April 21 from 5-7pm.
The exhibition is open to all visual artists over the age of 18 in all media. Entries must be original works of art that have been completed within the last three (3) years, and have not been previously exhibited in The Berkeley Art Works.
Juror:
The juror for the 2017 exhibit is Sonya Evanisko, a producing artist and a Professor of Art at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV.
Sonya has coordinated the Painting and Drawing Program in the Department of Contemporary Art and Theater since 1993. She received her B.F.A from Indiana University of PA and her M.F.A. from Indiana State University, IN. She was chosen as the WV Professor of the Year 2016 by the State’s Merit Council.
She has traveled the world with her students to view cultural sites and master artworks in the most prestigious museums/cities throughout Europe, as well as China, Egypt, South America, and Africa. She has exhibited her work at many regional and national exhibitions, such as The Cork Gallery at Lincoln Center, New York City, NY; The Millennium Arts Center, Washington, D.C.; The Three River’s Arts Festival, Pittsburgh, PA; The State Capital Museum in Charleston,WV; Stifel Fine Arts Center, Wheeling, WV; Tamarack, Beckley, WV; the Delaplaine, Frederick, MD; and The International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Florence, Italy. Her work was featured in New American Paintings published by The Open Studios Press, Wellesley MA. and can be seen in several public and private collections in the US and Europe.
Entry fee:
The entry fee for the exhibit is $35 for the first two works. Artists may submit one or two additional works for $10 each for a maximum of four works.

Entries:
Entries for the Art and Earth exhibit must be submitted as digital images for jurying. You may submit up to four works to be juried for this exhibit. (See Entry Fee, above)
The image file format should be normal (“baseline”) JPEG. Do not save as “progressive” JPEG. The images should be 1200 pixels on the long dimension with the other dimension proportional. Save at 72 PPI at high quality setting (8 out of 10 or 80% is good.) Set your filename to lastname_title_WxHxD_entrynumber.jpg (example: jones_pretty-girl_11x14x1_no1.jpg).
Dimensions should include the frame.
One additional image to show detail for 3-dimensional work is allowed.
Notification of Accepted Work:
The notification announcing the juror’s selections will be sent by email and be posted on our web site (this page) on or about March 3, 2017.
If accepted, the original works must be ready for hanging and must not exceed 48 inches in width, including frame. Paintings and works on paper must be suitably framed. All entries to be hung must be equipped with wire, ready for hanging. Three-dimensional works, must not exceed 72 inches in height and 36 in in width or height. Three-dimensional work must be free-standing. No substitution, exchange, modification, or withdrawal of works is permitted after they are accepted for the exhibition.
Awards:
Best in Show $250. Other awards based on the number of entries.

Delivery of Accepted work:

All accepted work must arrive between March 27, and April 2, 2017
For hand delivered work, The Berkeley Art Works hours are Wed (Mar 29), Thu (Mar 30), Fri (Mar 31) 11-5, Sat (April 1) 11-4, Sun (April 2) 12-3.
Shipping: Shipped works must arrive between March 17 and March 31, 2017 for inclusion in the exhibit. The Berkeley Art Works does not receive US Mail at the gallery address. Do not ship to the gallery address by US Postal Service. Please use UPS or FEDEX. Please email us with tracking information at berkeleyartswv@gmail.com. If you are unable to use UPS or FEDEX to ship your work, please email us for instructions.
Work must be shipped prepaid to The Berkeley Art Works in sturdy, reusable packing. (Please no styrofoam peanuts!) Plexiglass must be used on all shipped works, no glass.
For return shipping a prepaid shipping label must be included.

Sales:
The Berkeley Arts Council will retain a 30% commission on all sales. Works may not be removed during the exhibition.
Liability:
Although the Berkeley Arts Council will take reasonable measures to ensure the safety of the entries in the gallery, the BAC is not responsible for loss of or damage to the artwork, and the artist is responsible for his/her own insurance if desired.
Final Acceptance:
The Berkeley Arts Council reserves the right to reject any work that is not consistent with the work presented in the digital entry image or if the framing or presentation is not adequate.
